Gas reserves proven around 4 trillion cubic feet

The only gas project in the country is Angola LNG, in Block 14, which started operating in 2013 and with a 30-year operating forecast. The plant has a supply capacity of 5.2 tons per day, being 125 million cubic feet for domestic consumption.

In a presentation on “Investment in natural gas” at the International Conference on Petroleum Technological, Regulatory and Legal Strategies of the Oil Industry, Sonangol’s engineer Sandra Moreira said she believed that with the projects considered marginal but with gas potential , may in the very near future add some value to the country’s reserves.

The engineer explained that there is talk of proven reserves when the fields are already producing. “Our reserves are associated with the associated gas of the blocks in production (Block 0, 14,15,16,17,18 and now block 32 – Kaombo)”.

The largest proven gas reserves in the world are in the Middle East region and can be produced for 120 years. Africa’s reserves are estimated at 60 years of production.

At world level, the US is the largest consumer of natural gas, followed by Asia.

The Conference, which ended Friday, is addressing issues related to the regulatory and legal strategies of the oil industry, technologies for underwater active heating, reduction of uncertainties in the reservoir during the development of the Mafumeira oil field, among others.
